When I was about thirteen years old, I got my very first magazine subscription. It was for Girl’s Life. This was my first exposure to magazines and fashion. I was instantly hooked and the fact that a new one came right to my house every month was absolutely amazing. As I got into my teens, I discovered Seventeen Magazine and Teen Vogue and my love for fashion grew immensely. Although I had a great love for fashion, when I graduated high school I decided to chose a more practical path. I chose to attend a four-year university and study exercise science with hopes of eventually becoming a physical therapist. It wasn’t the most exciting thing in the world, but I knew that I would be able to get a stable job after graduating. But after studying exercise science for three years and after doing countless hours of volunteer work at a hospital, I just realized that my heart wasn’t in it and I wanted to pursue something that I was more passionate about. I never even knew that I could go to college and pursue a degree in fashion, but after researching, I found out that you could! I knew that by switching schools and majoring in fashion would make me so much happier and I could finally be passionate about school and my future. So that is exactly what I did! I am now getting a degree in Fashion Marketing and Management and I am so glad that I decided to take a chance and pursue something that I love. If it weren’t for fashion magazines, I don’t think I ever would have figured out my path in life. I have since moved on to more mature magazines like Instyle Magazine (www.instyle.com), Vogue (www.vogue.com), Glamour (www.glamour.com), Marie Claire (www.marieclaire.com), People Style Watch (www.peoplestylewatch.com), Cosmopolitan (www.cosmopolitan.com) and Harper’s Bazaar (www.harpersbazaar.com). I am loving school, excited about the future and when I finally graduate, I hope to find a career at a fashion magazine.
