Every year, there are new fashion color trends that are going to be popular. Pantone, a company that provides one of the most widely used color-matching systems, announces every year what the popular color will be for that entire year (www.pantone.com). In 2009, the color was Mimosa, in 2010, the color was Turquoise, and this year, the most popular color is Honeysuckle. But there are some colors that always come and go and have remained popular for many, many years. I have gone back all the way to the 1800’s and 1900’s to find colors that were popular then and are still popular today.
The first color I found was a light sky blue dress that was worn in a painting that is dated back to 1809-1888. I found this exact same color being worn in 2009. Drew Barrymore wore a dress in this sky blue color to the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. This simple, understated fashion color trend will be seen for many years to come. Along with the color, both of these dresses are also similar in style. They are both off-the-shoulder dresses.
The second color I found was pure white dress also worn in a painting that is dated back to the 1800’s. I found this same color dress worn in 2010. This dress is from designer Azzaro’s pre-fall 2010 collection and was worn by Ashley Greene to a movie premiere. The color white will always, always be popular in fashion. It is so pure and simple that it will never go out of style. These two dresses are also very similar in style. They are both long sleeved and they both have a bow tie around the waist.
The third color that I found was bright, hot pink dress that was worn as a bridesmaid dress in the early 1900’s. I found this same color dress worn in 2009. This dress is from Chanel and was worn by Cameron Diaz at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. The styles of these two dresses are completely different, but the colors are exactly the same. This hot pink color is very feminine and a favorite of most women. It will always be a popular color in fashion.
The fourth color that I found was a bright, fire engine red dress that was worn in a movie in 1951. Jane Powell wore the dress in the movie Royal Wedding. Follow this link to read more about this movie (www.imdb.com/title/tt0043983/) I found this same color dress worn in 2009. This dress is by designer Reem Acra and was worn by Eva Longoria to the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. This bright red color isn’t for everyone, but it is a color that will remain popular in fashion for many years to come.
The fifth and final color that I found was a black dress that was worn in the early 1900’s. Coco Chanel wore this dress. I found a dress in the same color that was worn in 2009 by Vanessa Hudgens to the Academy Awards. Black will absolutely always be a fashion color trend that will withstand the test of time. This color looks amazing on everyone and will always be popular.
